THE SOPRANO, ART DIRECTOR

Born in Miri, Sarawak. In 1999 and 2000, she won 4th prize in the National Vocal Competition, and in the following year, she achieved the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama Recital Certificate. Kho Mei Ling has gone to Italy to attend master classes under Lorraine Nawa Jones Marenzi in 2000 and 2001 Further competition accolades include being the selected Malaysian representative for the International Art Song Festival 2003 which was held in China and broadcasted live within the country. 2004 saw Kho Mei Ling in the limelight when she took on the lead role as “Liu San Jie” in the musical production of Liu San Jie Drama which was greatly acclaimed. In the same year, she was the first prize winner of the Bangkok Opera Vocal Competition and in October 2004, she performed a vocal recital ‘Amore’ together with Peter Ong, which features solo and duet arias and art song. Later in December, Mei Ling played the principal role as ‘Mercedes’ in the French opera Carmen held in Penang and Istana Budaya. Kho Mei Ling also led the local Buddhist Choir in a performance at Dharma Drum Taiwan Grand Opening Ceremony on 21 October 2005, which was attended by the president and broadcasted live in Taiwan and over the Internet. In July 2006, she performed in the concert Frutti D’more together with Peter Ong, Wong Jy Yin and Mr Loo Ban Hean, featuring the opera arias and art songs. On 27 December 2006, she performed a solo vocal recital ‘La Voce’ in Pahang and Bentong, singing a programme of Chinese art songs and folk songs. 2007, she played the main role’The Three Lady’ in the comic opera”The Magic Flute”in KL Performing Art Center(KL PAC). Kho Mei Ling has also been under vocal training by Cecilia Yap Keat Chee recently. (CHINESE VERSION)
